WORTH CONSUMING!

Okay, so the supposed science behind the technology that was at the heart of this movie was utterly unconvincing (at one point the girl next to me in the theatre sucked her teeth and exclaimed “That’s a lie!”), and I’m not a big Denzel Washington fan, but this was pretty decent, for what it was. I enjoy movies where things are hinted at in the beginning and then start to make sense and come together at the end, so I enjoyed this. The ending was super-cheesy though.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Reminded me of the Gladwell article in TNY, all of the elements of a daring or interesting film, but put together in a rather non-controversial way.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Really enjoyed this film. It’s mostly a crime thriller, trying to identify and caputre the bomber of a New Orlean ferry, and killer of a young woman. But with an added sci-fi twist when Denzil Washington (a lot more likeable here than I’ve ever found him before!) is asked to join a team with some strange technology…

I wouldn’t say it was perfectly formed, and there are definitely bits that could have been tighter. But it was thoroughly enjoyable, in my opinion!

WORTH CONSUMING!

but not wonderful. Denzel Washington and Val Kilmer were excellent, and did a great job with a script that was a little too far-fetched. The action keeps the film moving, although towards the end I felt it flagged a little. The aerial scenes are stunning, and the interiors are full of atmosphere, so the movie looks good. Good looks and good acting just can’t save a weak story however.

Because I saw this movie on a Tuesday, it only cost $6 to see in a cinema. If I’d paid full price, I think I would have been disappointed. I would say, wait for the video. It’s an ok way to spend a cold afternoon.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I loved the aerial zoom in shots of new orleans and the harbour. The opening scene was so American…sailors, beach boys music playing. It was so nice to see a movie filmed in New Orleans and the fact that it didn’t hide the city’s current status, but made use of it. Very representative of present day.

Denzel Washington was wonderful.

The extra characters were all there to serve a purpose, and they fit in well.

I loved the science fiction aspect of the movie, and how they explained science within a good old cop movie. It’s just a movie, I don’t have a hard time accepting what the movie presents is possible.

This movie reminded me of Inside Man.

Great choreography.

Smart.
