It’s well made, it’s worth a look – but I can’t say I enjoyed it. Very bleak and grim. The sets are stunning, the tension is great, but overall… I’m not entirely sure. There are more ‘whys’ than answers, and lots not explored as much as it could have been in favour of lingering, stunning shots of the sun, or the fragile ship flinging itself through space towards it.

I found a genuinely unsettling sense of claustrophobia building – not from the confined space of the ship, which seems pretty large, but because it is only this shell that stops the crew from dying any one of many horrific deaths: if it’s not the freezing vacuum of space, it’s the almighty heat of the star ahead, enough to frizzle any unshielded material in an instant.
