Utopia/dystopia. An emotionally powerful story of magic and the hope of nonviolent resistance to armed military occupation. I read it aloud to my sweetie, but at the end I was crying so hard I had to stop and take several breaks.

I read this many years ago and loved it. I loved it so much that I kept trying to engage my boyfriends in a joint reading-aloud project so they could enjoy this book with me. The first one never made it past chapter one. The second one made it about two chapters in. But my current sweetie and I are about 100 pages from the end. Hooray, I think we’re going to make it! We don’t spend much time reading together lately. The last time we did was on our weekend car trip. He read to me while I drove.

I have so many warm memories of reading together with my family when I was young; I suppose I am trying to recreate that with my partners. It is such a nice way to be together and share literature.
