WORTH CONSUMING!

This is a novel that demands you see the world in a different way. The principal story, narrated to the author by an older version of the title character, is about a boy traveling across the Pacific with his family and the animals from the zoo they own and are relocating. The ship sinks, and the boy is the only survivor — along with a Bengal tiger. The two share a lifeboat for months while the boy goes to extraordinary measures to tame the tiger and keep them both alive.

The story is introduced as one that will make you believe in God, and indeed, God is ultimately what this fantasy tale of survival is all about: God and man and death in between them. The novel is vastly open to personal interpretation, which imbues it with a more significant but highly individual meaning for each reader, much like religion should be, and that’s what makes it so powerful.

A question I have about this — 2 years ago

Finished.. phew!
This took me forever.. I found it very dull up until the island. At the end it was interesting to find out the significance of the animals.

My question:
In the interview Pi asks the Japenese men how they would explain the meerkat bones in the boat. They say it could be mongoose bones but Pi says there were none on the ship..
What do you think the bones were from?

WORTH CONSUMING!

This book is going to sit in my subconscious for a while. I keep thinking about the meerkat island in particular, since it is strangely similar to some of my craziest dreams.

I think the end could’ve been lopped off, but other than that it’s a good, easy, surreal, imaginative, enjoyable read.

About half way done, and hoping the plot will thicken soon..

I can not invistion the boat what so ever.. is this a orange life boat that we often use or a sail boat or what? It doens’t look like this does it? and where exactly is the boie he is sitting on and how does that work? he’s not on the boat with the animals right?

WORTH CONSUMING!

My daughter gave me this book last year with a recommendation that I read it. It is one of the oddest books I have ever read, but it all comes together and becomes logical in the end.
