NOT WORTH CONSUMING

This was just a selfish, self-indulgent jerk making excuses for his cruelty in his past relationships. The only redeeming aspect for me was that it gave me a peak inside the mind of a self-deluded, shallow personality. He’s a male chauvinist who has convinced himself that he believes in women’s rights and is somehow supporting gender equality by not believing in monogamy while the whole time saying he’s searching for a soulmate. He’s a Freudian therapist’s dream.

I don’t even believe this guy was a sex-addict, but rather a person who couldn’t see past his own needs to someone else’s. And then he eventually went to sex addicts anonymous because he had no better way of explaining his behavior to himself or others. The end is the topper. He gives the typical sexist “siren song” explanation basically blaming all the women he was with for not being woman enough for him. And this film just continues to give him a forum for indulging himself.

like watching a train wreck in a really cute way. — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

this is basically about a guy who winds up destroying all his relationships due to his prostitute fetish. generally some of the problems he faced stemmed from a major lack of clear communication. for instance, his girlfriend would grant him permission to see prostitutes, naturally thinking that he actually wouldn’t go and take her up on the offer. when he did, he’d basically get slapped in the face. a few times i felt like i watching an alcoholic do the “just one last drink,” thing.

fwiw, the presentation is really endearing. hilary soldati plays the backup cello throughout the film, and she sounds way better by herself than she did in smart went crazy. great stuff! anyhow, i’m certainly a caveh zahedi fan now. pretty sure i want to see in the bathtub of the world, now, and the rest of his films.
