A story about this — 2 years ago
Don’t get me wrong—I like atheist quotes as much as the next heathen, but this book stinks! Almost all of the quotes Huberman uses are taken from online sources. Besides the fact that this is incredibly lazy (and definitely not worth paying for), he doesn’t even bother to specify which quotes come from which sites. Presumably, we’re supposed to have faith that he didn’t just make them up….
Also, it’s inexcusable to misspell Allen Ginsberg’s name, especially when you mention it about 1700 times in your book.
Finally, twisting quotations of theists to suit your purposes is cheap and ridiculous. There are enough good atheist zingers out there that there’s absolutely no need to resort to claiming self-described christians were actually atheists in disguise. Quoting Jerry Falwell and Hitler to show how idiotic christians are is both overdone and puerile, not, as he claims, “thought-provoking to atheists and theists alike.” (He tries to justify all of this in his introduction, but it’s not very convincing.)
The title of this book is hilarious—it’s too bad that’s the best part!
