A tender and tragic tale of two Indian women and the cultural and caste differences between them. With deft subtlety, Umrigar captures the inner workings of the women’s thoughts and feelings as they navigate their lives. Heart-wrenching, with some shocking plot developments. I discovered this author when reading an interview with Canadian author Carol Shields, who said Thrity Umrigar was one of her favourite authors. Now, she is also one of mine.
