It has the slow, somewhat awkward pacing that was popular during this time in literature, which can make it difficult for a reader more accustomed to modern novels. But the story is strange and interesting, sad, but honest. Worth reading if you love to read.
It’s a classic, so you must read it but I just didn’t get it. I tend to dislike tragic love stories, of course or ones where I really don’t ‘feel’ for the main characters in the story – or like them.

Manages to be much more interesting than Jane Eyre with a plainer plot.

This is one of the books on my (embarrassingly long) list of should-have-read-by-nows. Summer also = catch up reading.

While I don’t like this as much as I liked Jane Eyre, this book is still quite good. It’s amazing how the emotions the characters experience and struggle with are the same emotions you and I still experience and struggle with.

Picked this up after Anne Carson referred to her so extensively in Glass, Irony & God. I realized I had never read it.
