WORTH CONSUMING!

I bought this DVD because it was on sale for incredibly cheap on boxing day. My high school boyfriend thought this was the best movie ever, but I don’t think I had ever seen it all. Anyway, I watched it a while ago with my (current!) boyfriend and we had good laughs. It’s not really my type of humor (it’s sometimes too crude) but I liked the songs (!) and I kind of put my brain on hold (though some jokes were way more subtle).

I didn’t know any other Mel Brooks films though so the inside jokes were kind of lost on me. Happily the bonus features were quite all right for a single-disc DVD and I catched up a bit on Mel Brooks’ world. It’s definetly a good buy to pass the time with some mindless laughs.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I last saw this when I was about 15 and absolutely loved it; at 27, I found myself laughing but rolling my eyes. Mel Brooks directs everyone extremely broadly; at one point, I imagined him saying “Be less subtle!” on set to Cary Elwes. Despite the broad humour and reliance on stereotypes (or because of it?), it’s still very funny, and it’s largely due to Cary Elwes’ complete dedication. And Richard Lewis’s Prince John is HILARIOUS. Recycled jokes included, I think Men In Tights is worth watching, and a good Mel Brooks film for those who haven’t seen his work before.
