Second time around for Que la bĂȘte meure... I guess I’m on a Chabrol roll.
Synopsis: A man loses his son in a hit-and-run accident, and he resolves to hunt down the killer.
This is probably my favorite Chabrol movie. Possibly that’s just because parts of it take place in Brittany, and I’m very fond of that area. Aside from that, the movie has a certain surreal feel to it. The characters generally behave in a weird, stilted manner, as if they are puppets driven by unexplained forces that control them. This is not to say that the acting or directing is bad (although sometimes I wonder) – there’s just a sense of unreality about it all… people just don’t behave that way in real life, do they? I kind of like the weirdness.
