For me, what set this above just an assemblage of clips was the decision to have the stars themselves present the information on the MGM backlot. Juxtaposing these great actors and actresses (most of whom were well past their prime in 1974) with the decayed magnificence of the sets was a touch of brilliance. It not only paid homage to the great era of MGM musicals, but left you wishing that there was anything near that type of grandeur still being produced today.

Gives you a sampling of mgm classic hollywood films. My roomate watched this everyday, but I didn’t mind! I just wished I had seen all the films in it… it will make you want to go out and watch them all.
