The year I lived in France I went to the movies a couple of times a week. Sometimes I went to listen to French and (hopefully) understand without translating, sometimes to escape French and hear some English – sometimes I would watch an English language movie that was dubbed and force myself not to look at the subtitles.

This was a favorite because I watched it in French, in France and having Christopher Lambert in it did not hurt.

Plus – I adored the soundtrack and wore it out on my little walkman (dating myself). Ah, nostalgia.

Luc Besson creates an imaginative and surreal world beneath the streets of Paris – in the Métro. Coupled with the music of Eric Serra (Besson’s fetish composer), an amazing and captivating atmosphere is created throughout the film.
