WORTH CONSUMING!

Amusing movie.

And of course, there’s the versatile Johnny Depp (Capn Jack Sparrow) who gives his character an interestig, androgynous yet endearing zing! Nice:)

WORTH CONSUMING!

Johnny Depp, of course. And the special effects. Seeing the Cracken destroy ships on the big screen was well worth the price of admission. Great sound. Incredible costumery. Almost everyone I talked to who had seen it said the same two things: too long and not as good as the original. I’d agree that it dragged a bit in places, but there was plenty going on to hold my attention. And it continued the themes/storylines established in the original, setting the stage for Part III. All in all, it was as good a sequel as it could have been, and well worth watching.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I thought it was pretty good although I must admit once during the movie I was wondering if it was long or if it was just me. However that thought quickly left my mind. I am a huge Johnny Depp fanatic, and love pirates so I liked it the ending was alright I would watch it again.

a totally fun romp! Character driven, intricate relationships, great touches, wonderful acting. I loved it and the critics just don’t know how to have any fun at all.

Way too much hype!! — 6 years ago

It’s quite bad. I’m still in shock. Very disappointing!

WORTH CONSUMING!

Yes its really part one of a two part storyline, but it still worked for me. I think a lot of people are still on the CGI bashing bandwagon, and after the damage done by Lucasfilm that’s somewhat understandable. Still, I thought the CGI in this film was used in the way it should be – to further the story, unlike Star Wars with its CGI-fest which only existed to look pretty. But then again, what do I know about film? Many film lovers believe that Y Tu Mama Tambien is a great film. I think they must be on crack. I saw that putrid POS and mourned the loss of those 2 hours I would never get back.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Lacked the fun of the last movie. Some stuff was just plain dull and Davy Jones character is never really explained, except by a nutty wheezy woman whose lines were terribly muffled and cryptic. Attention future filmmakers of America: Do Not Ever Do This Under Penalty of Death.

Pirates in Search of a Plot — 6 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It’s fun to watch Johnny Depp as a pirate and he’s always interesting to watch, but with a weaker plot than the first film, Dead Man’s Chest is more about the characters than the plot. With some great and funny action sequences, it’s a fun summer movie, but the writing is a bit sloppy with the film setting up the sequel instead of providing any sort of narrative closure. But I enjoyed it overall and especially liked the chemistry between Depp and Keira Knightly. Bill Nighy is concealed under makeup and cgi, but he still shines through and brings his usual memorable touches to the character of Davy Jones. Stellan Sarsgaard plays Orlando Bloom’s father with his haunted eyes standing out under the makeup. Naomie Harris is over the top as a Jamaican medicine woman who ties loose threads of the plot together, but she has fun with it and manages to say the name of the sequel in the film with a straight face. A fun Summer movie that is an enjoyable (but slightly lazy) connection between the first and third movies.

Where the first took the anti-national quality essential to piracy and extended that sort of lovely, liberating lawlessness to race, ethnicity, gender and history the second really closed down the possibilties for pirating quite a bit, with some tired old (or tired new) stereotypes and cliches. The only real lawlessness was a physical lawlessness that appeared to be, (one might flatter the creators) inspired by Pynchon’s Mason and Dixon.

This was okay, but I remember liking the first one better (I can’t remember exactly why [maybe I should rent it], but I remember finding the first more refreshing, surprising, and generally delightful. Here, the storyline felt slower and a bit tedious. The effects were good – I quite enjoyed reading Bill Nighy’s facial expressions underneath his Davy Jones / Evil Undead Squid costume – and there were a couple of really good one-liners. Still looking forward to #3. I find that #2 in a trilogy often ends up being the one I least enjoy, anyway.

WORTH CONSUMING!

To the person with the avatar of a dog’s ass: how can a movie that isn’t getting good reviews be “overrated?”…people aren’t praising this movie. Cretin.

This movie was good, dumb fun, as all summer movies generally are (except for the ones that are just dumb). There’s a nice cliffhanger at the end (though not much of one, since you know it will be resolved in 3), and one of my favorite actors of all time popped up at the end so we get to see him in the third one! That was unexpected, and freakin’ awesome.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Last day of vacation and the opening day of a sequel to a great movie – that meant I was there for the noon showing (and missed a much needed haircut). It was fun-filled and action-packed and all those other hyphenated descriptions. Johnny Depp is right at home as Captain Jack Sparrow and the die is cast for movie no. 3…no spoilers from me.

I went to the midnight showing and it rocked my world. This movie is JAMPACKED with action. It was very exciting to watch and unlike most sequels…not a disappointment.

i really wanna watch it again! : )

WORTH CONSUMING!

So, i took in a midnight viewing, chatted about Eldest (because i was reading it while i was waiting and the people behind me were in the middle of it), and was a bit shocked by what i saw. As far as sequels go this was not the best… but it most certainly not the worst, either. It had several good moments, was cornier than the original, and a maddening yet awesome conclusion. Let’s just say it’s growing on me. It was neat to go when i did because the crowd was loud (duh! don’t go to a midnight viewing and expect it to be quiet) and many seemed to appreciate it even more than i did.

And the only SPOILERS you’re going to get from me…

As a side note, i was a little upset not to see more of Orli (sorry, Bloom) climbing the sail (because it was in the preview) but that really was not important to the plot, i just happen to be a Bloom fan. But this nowhere equates to how upset i was to see AGAINSPOILER Elizabeth flirting with Sparrow and what became of that. My heart just broke for will. Sorry for the yelling, but it did. Everyone seemed to do things that were a bit out of character from the first film, but hey, characters change, look what happened to Vaughn on Alias (but that’s a whole ’nother casket of bones).
