i dont know, maybe im just a hater, but good god this movie was..not bad, just super dumb.
for one, her grandpa keeps sayin, oh, our tribe has been visited by this curse, things are bad blahablahblah, all against the most beautiful backdrops that the planet has to offer. just really hard to feel sorry for any of them.
it just didnt make sense, none of it, and the society isnt that alien. the characters were so one-dimensional it was painful to watch. most of this movie was. my girlfriend and i just kept laughing at the people on screen, not when we were supposed to either.
i dunno, maybe i have a heart of stone, but this was just a trite, dumb, emotionless pile of a movie.

but yes, it did look awfully pretty.

I enjoyed the take on the Maori tribe. I never knew about them and learning about some of their history and culture through this movie was quite nice.

For a family film it dealt with some very deep-seeded and serious issues. The main character was unfortunate enough to feel unwanted and unloved, and though she triumphed in the end it took lots of leaps and bounds to get there. It might be a little heavy for a child, but maybe they need to learn that some people are bad off early.

It was beautifully filmed. Kudos to the director of photography.
