Great character study enhanced by the Quincy Jones soundtrack. Edgy tale of the Holocaust survivor running his pawnshop in the heart of Harlem… The walking wounded are everywhere. Rod Steiger inhabits the role completely. The female characters play strong supporting roles as do all those who populate the neighbourhood.
