Why I recommend this — 3 years ago
Stuck in Neutral by Terry Trueman is one of the most intense books I have read recently. He takes on the subject of euthanasia, except from the perspective of the person who is going to be euthanized. Trueman also writes from his own experience with his son presenting things he has wondered about – is his son like the character of Shawn, who remembers everything but just cannot express it, feels but has no way of showing people how he feels, thinks, is a genius? No one knows. There is no way of getting into his head and finding out but what if. Trueman presents a “what if…” and in the end, it has you thinking and maybe having a better understanding of what individuals go through who have kids with other major health problems. It is a powerful statement about how people will never fully understand what these parents and their families go through but also that we will never know what is going on with the individuals who have these disabilities. Pick it up, it’s only 114 pages long and definitely will give you a different perspective.
