WORTH CONSUMING!

Avengers, Watchmen, Surpreme. You would not have them without the JLA.
These old issues are like watching Japaneze Giant Monster Flicks. Sometimes so bad, they are good. Teamwork issues are the best- and most far fecthed. And Aquaman shows us you don’t need water to save the day.
Plus, these stories are loaded with editors notes that give helpful information and nifty facts.
Worth a read. Consume it.

DC’s Showcase series reprints old issues of their classic – and not-so-classic; I’m looking at you, Haunted Tank – comic titles from the 60s. I read the Metamorpho volume, and absolutely loved it, so I picked up Justice League of America Volume One. It’s not terrible, it’s just really hokey. And yes, I know I’m not the target audience for these stories. Mainstream comics today are (mostly) written for adults, and mainstream comics back then were written for teens. As such, the dialogue and situations were cheesy, especially when they kept trying to shoehorn Aquaman in. Seriously, I like Aquaman, but he’s NOT a guy that easily works in a team book unless the team is Daring Underwater Adventure-Seekers or something.

There isn’t a story that I would call a “stand-out”, but it was interesting to see the origins of some of the JLA’s villains like Starro, Amazo, Despero, Felix Faust, and Dr. Light. Easily consumable in small doses, but I couldn’t read more than one issue at a time. It’s also hard to recommend, as it’s definitely for a small sub-section of the general population. I don’t regret buying it but I won’t be re-reading it any time soon.
