Still typical Copeland and a decent read, however I didn’t like jPod nearly as much as his other books. If you want something similar read Microserfs (but better). If you want something different (and better) read Life After God, or Miss Wyoming.

WORTH CONSUMING!

The second you start taking Coupland seriously, you lose. I liked the references, I loved the incessant flow of men/women in Ethan’s Mom’s life (Coupland has something of a trademark with his Mom characters, no?) and the Hole. And Kam Fong. And Cowboy! The references could end up being out of date, but who cares? I had a good time reading this book.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’m not sure what to say about this book. At times the dialogue was snort-out-loud funny, and that made me keep going. Other than that… I don’t know what to say. It wasn’t at all realistic, the jPodders weren’t interesting, and the pages and pages of prime and random numbers and weird stream of consciousness did nothing for me, except bump up my “pages per minute” score.

And the freakish self-reference and inclusion of the author as a character? Gag me.

Still, I did snort…

WORTH CONSUMING!

A book by and for ‘high functioning autistics’? – pages of primes, pi to a brazillion places, extreme close-up packaging listings. Frequently funny, lacks depth – and why the whacky attack on 1970’s lesbian feminists?

Trying to be to clever. Already out of date in the zeitgeist stakes. Funny in patches.

Read Microserfs instead.

Sebastian recommended that I should read this book and I have, and part of me wonders if he was suggesting this because one of the characters reminds him of me. This possibility really scares for some reason…

Why I gave up consuming this — 7 years ago

I flipped through this book and my eye caught some stereo-types….and that makes me not want to read this book.

I started reading the first few pages and the situation is absurd. I didn’t enjoy it.
