This is the first Carl Hiaasen book I read, and I’m definitely going to have to read more! The characters were so vibrant—I want to go crusing around Florida’s highways with Twilly Spree!
Here’s my favorite part of the book. I don’t think it spoils anything to quote it here, but stop reading now if you’re worried about it!
“Son, I can’t tell you what to do with your life—hell, you’ve seen what I’ve done with mine. But I will tell you there’s probably no peace for people like you and me in this world. Somebody’s got to be angry or nothing gets fixed. That’s what we were put here for, to stay pissed off.”

The slightly insane story of an overzealous and very angry young man who care deeply for the environment and the insanity that happens when he witnesses a prominent lobbyist littering. Entertaining as all get out to read with some very absurd characters. Not deep on the mystery but you’re having so much fun you barely notice.

The highly entertaining story of a young ecoterrorist and his campaign against a group of crooked politicians, lobbyists and drug dealers turned real estate developers who want to despoil a small Florida island of it’s natural beauty by constructing a sprawling golf development. Oh, and there’s an actual sick puppy (a Black Labrador) as well, who plays a critical role in the story.
My byfriend introduced me to the works of Carl Hiaasen.
Chris Brookmyre – a favourite author of mine – is often compared to Hiaasen. As my boyfriend has the complete Hiaasen collection I intend to read more of him.
