Half Way House: A Mystery Fit For A Queen — 7 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Half Way House was my first Ellery Queen novel, but based on how much I liked it, definitely not the last. Ellery Queen novels are split up into three sections: the discovery of the crime, the investigation, and the reveal, and the reader is encouraged to try and solve the mystery themselves before Queen reveals his solution. I enjoyed the “police procedural” feel to it, a more straight-ahead mystery than the crime fiction I typically read this year. And I did solve the mystery correctly, although I only used three pieces of evidence from the book and Queen had, like, twelve. Anyhow: a fine little mystery, with enough quirks and stylistic touches to merit further exploration of the series.
