A story about this — 3 years ago
The plot is thin: Will struggling artist Ray (played by Ken Olin) keep his promise and marry his live-in girlfriend, hair-stylist Patricia (Chloe Webb)? But an incredible supporting cast more than makes up for it. Dennis (Kevin Bacon) is the kid from the hood who makes it in Hollywood—or does he? Al (Joe Mantegna) is the little hot-shot turned wealthy fishmonger whose marriage to childhood sweetheart Carla (Linda Fiorentino) is on the rocks. Eliot (John Malkovich) is the gay friend who is not quite out, and Monte (Tom Waits) is the gang’s local street dealer. A brief appearance by Jamie Lee Curtis as an uptown girl named Grace adds a little twist to the proceedings. The film earned an “Independent Spirit Award” nomination in 1992 for Malkovich’s part and has been favorably compared to “The Big Chill.” Well worth a look.
