Why it's taking me forever to finish consuming this — 5 years ago

Too much stuff going on in my life has up until recently put a limitation on anything I did in leisure.

I have a lot more time now and if I don’t finish this book inside of this week, then I want someone to come and spank me for ignoring it. It’s a series of books I like, the story is very entertaining for what I’ve read so far, and I have absolutely all the free time I need to read it.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’ve been putting off reading this book for so long – Lord only knows why. I’ve waited so long that multiple aspects of the ending have been revealed to me, so tonight I have decided to start it and get it done.

According to this site, I stopped reading this book over twelve weeks ago due to my having to move suddenly. This weekend is it. I will finish that book even if I have to glue myself to the chair to do it.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Benjamin and I finally finished this audio book on our way back from Portland last weekend! It only took us 9 months… This story was much like the other books, though the darkness in this series continues to increase.

Benjamin and I are torn between hoping that the bad thing that happens at the end isn’t real, which would be cheesy but satisfy our emotional desires, or that it is real and therefore sad and reflecting poorly on Dumbledore’s character but at least not a total cop-out.

We’ll be interested to see how the series resolves in the next book.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’ve read all the Harry Potter books so far. I think the Prisoner of Azkaban is best. I think the last 3 (the big fat books) have lots of padding that could well be edited out, but the publisher is not strong enough to tell JK Rowling to cut all the extraneous chapters out. Nevertheless, I’ll still read the last book when it comes out, just to see how the story is all wrapped up.

this book left me devastated but massively intruiged…i would say a somewhat predictable plot, although the ending DID catch me off guard

not my favorite installment by Rowling (i still think the goblet of fire is the best) but definitely worth reading

Why it's taking me forever to finish consuming this — 6 years ago

I have been having quite a few upheavals in my life of late but I have just made one of my annoying little determinations to get past where I stopped in this book.

I will finish this bloody thing before the end of this month.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’m removing this from my list of current reading materials since we haven’t listened to it in a very long time. Benjamin and I are (theoretically) listening to it together, but we only listen to it when we drive somewhere at least an hour away. That hasn’t happened for a while. I know I’ll finish it eventually, either with B or alone, but for now it comes off the list to reflect reality. ;-)

WORTH CONSUMING!

Three days ago, I finished “’Half-Blood Prince” (HBP), which completes the second time I’ve read the first six books.

It is such a compelling story, plus it’s fun to do a bit of sleuthing.

Right now, I’m trying to calm down from my Harry Potter high, and move on. It’s not easy.

Kid at heart, I adore fantasy … coupled with a magical world … heaven.

The fated romance adds a ticklish element … though this series does not need it.

Why I recommend this — 6 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I think it’s one of the best books, from the series, if not the best one. The whole book seems much more like story for adults than a book for children. A story of complete series fits together and this one book is different than other five, and I’m really looking forward to read a next one.

One of the things, which I never liked about the first book, was that, it’s too short. And this sixth (and previous two) is (are) long enough to contain all the interesting things, which it (they) should.

Well, I’m finally done reading it, and I really really liked it. It was very long, and the ending was very dramatic and quite sad. I loved the way that she sets up the story for the next book, and I’m really looking forward to reading it. Hopefully it won’t take too long to come out, but even if it does…it’s the quality of the story that counts. I will eventually be reading this again. :)

I get alternate nights, but she fills me in on what I’ve missed.

I read the first four myself, but wouldn’t bother with any more if not reading with her.

Almost done. — 6 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’m about 3/4 through this book, and it’s really hard for me to put it down. I already got it spoiled for me on ytmnd.com, which stinks, but I’m not going to have that completely ruin this book for me. I am really impressed by it so far and am about to get back to reading.

Poor writing, but good storytelling. A well-considered ending. — 6 years ago

I am surprised that I didn’t read a spoiler somewhere about this book. The last quarter of the book was pretty intense. I was in denial until the very last page. The last page left me kind of hanging and not satisfied. Am I going to buy the 7th book? Heck yes.

Harry Matures, Not So Sure About Rowling's Writing — 6 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It’s been said before, that Rowling’s strengths are in characterization and plotting. The same can’t be said of her use of exposition. These strengths and weaknesses are present in Half-Blood Prince, as they are in the rest of the series. To be sure, if you’re still with the series now, you’ll be favorably inclined toward Book 6 and will read Book 7. And certainly, Rowling is a stronger genre writer than many who publish in the fantasy market. And it seems to be fairly well-done for the children’s/youth book market. But is Harry Potter great literature? I don’t know yet; I think much will depend on the last book tying things together.

As for Half-Blood Prince specifically? Well, the plot is relatively light for this one and the exposition even heavier than in other books. It seems to be primarily a set-up for the final book in the series. It answers peripheral plot questions about romantic relationships, it does the job of moving Harry from angsty adolescence into the beginnings of adulthood, and provides what it now the expected cliffhanger moment which moves the books’ fans into tears. But, for this reader at least, Half-Blood Prince was a disappointment. It was structured in such a way that it relied too much on Rowling’s weaknesses and even seemed to cater to fan questions instead of moving the overall narrative arc forward.
