WORTH CONSUMING!

I thought dragonfruit was bland (both the red and white varieties; both fresh and dried) and would mark “not worth consuming” if it wasn’t for my experience eating it chilled last year. An old family friend brought over a large bowl of chilled dragonfruit and I thought, great!—what are we going to do with all that bland fruit? Well it was so sweet and delicious chilled that I finally came around and learned how wonderful dragonfruit is.

I saw one in the supermarket, thought it looked gorgeous and bought it for about £2.

I cut it open and was similarly impressed by the look of the thing, but was disappointed by the relative tastelessness of it. It’s rather like very bland cucumber. The texture is different though, the pulp is very wet and uniform, the little seeds slightly crunchy, giving it an almost gritty texture.

You cut it in half and scoop out the pulp and seeds with a spoon. You eat the pulp and seeds all in one. I don’t know what else you would eat it with. Perhaps you could use a melon ball scooper and make little pulpy balls for decoration on something?

I guess it’s thirst quenching if anything, but was certainly not worth the price I paid.

I’d eat one if it was given to me, but I won’t bother buying another one.

Shame.

A question I have about this — 1 year ago

So, I agree with the entry below. I had a dragon fruit and it was just, well, watery. It was slightly sweet, and the texture was odd, and it was nasty to eat (because I was eating it with nothing but my naked hand and a naked knife). Perhaps I just missed how it is supposed to be eaten.

What is it good with? Any recommendations?

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

... tastes of nothing.
