A story about this — 2 years ago

I liked this movie even though I didn’t understand all of it since I saw it in German, which it is called “Liebe braucht keine ferien” (Love needs no holiday). I’ll eventually see it in english so I can understand everything but my friends and I go to see german movies to practise our comprehenion.

Completely entertaining, completely predictable — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was a fun, enjoyable movie that entertained me the whole time (despite the fact that it was longer than average). It’s a fluffy, sentimental, unrealistic, chick flick. But if that is what you’re looking for, like me, then you’ll enjoy it.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I just saw this movie today and I have to say it is the best movie I’ve seen in a long time. I fell in love with it from the first five minutes. It touched me in the way that love actually did the first, second, and third time I watched it.

It has a kind of crazy premise-two women who are having slightly varying problems with cheating men decide to exchange houses for the holiday. One going to L.A. and one going to a small town outside of London (do people actually do this?) And of course they fall in love but in very different ways.

It was interesting to see Jude Law in this role. I usually associate him as the man from Alfie. Charming but misguided. But in this role he is sensitive and kind, and it suits him.

Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, and Jack Black give equally good performances but Jude Law steals the shows.

So go see it now.

comedy for Law, drama for Black — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

A bit of a stretching for Law and Black, since Law usually does depressing dramas and Black usually does over-the-top comedy. i found it to be a very enjoyable happy medium: both men were smashingly handsome and charming and lovable. What was so great about this movie was that everyone had a sad thing that they were working through, Amanda her parents’ divorce, Iris and Miles their unrequited love, Graham and Arthur their wives’ deaths. Jaspar and Maggie were both insensitive self-centered jerks.

There was such a strong contrast between the two couples’ holidays! One jumped in the sack immediately, the other hardly kissed. i loved Graham’s daughters. My respect for Winslet as an actress has grown exponentially the past couple of years. But my respect for Diaz still falls flat; she only barely pulls this part off, and only by acting nearly exactly like every other character she’s ever played. The costumes and jewelry in this movie are awesome, i totally want some of the sweaters both of the leading ladies wore. All in all, a great film, even if the ending fell flat and felt corny. Stupid Amanda, too much of a career girl to give up her empty life for a new family that would make her so much happier. i hope Iris and Miles make it.

Definitely worth seeing!

WORTH CONSUMING!

I loved this movie, I guess becasue I am in the same situation that Kate is in. So it helped me to relate. I think that Jude and Camron definetly had chemistry, but I think that the director should have explored the relationship of Jack and Kate more, I just didn’t see the connection. And the old man is sooo cute!

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

i really cannot say enough about how terrible this movie is.

i saw this as a free premiere, and i’m so glad i didn’t waste one cent on it. it was extremely predictable, sappy and overly sentimental, filled with awkward and unnecessary product placements, and the big closing scene was ruined by a boom mic in the shot.

cameron diaz’s character is unrealistic, while kate winslet is overly emotional. jude law and jack black are charming, but the movie focuses mostly on the girls. the christmas timeline didn’t add anything to the story except incredulity. no one would throw a hollywood lifetime achievement recognition event between xmas and new years! also the movie felt four hours long. hopefully the movie was slimmed down and fixed up for wide release.

WORTH CONSUMING!

“I don’t love like other people”

“I can’t cry”

something to the effect of “I want to really read a book, not just magazines which made me buy all the books that had good reviews”

I think Cameran Diaz and Jude Law had chemistry in this movie. Cameron Diaz was a natural with all her lines. And seeing her in interviews recently, she is so bubbly, laughing takes up most interviews, and the smiles.

Kate Winslet was dear too, like a Bridget Jones. Her storyline was sweet, but she was so believable when she was first exploring the rooms in Amanda’s L.A. house, I mean, that’s exactly what I would do, run to every room and be totally amazed and awe struck. You know she’s an actress when she can film those scenes and still appear to be awed.

Jude Law…is this how he seduces women. heh.

Jack Black, smooth.

This movie DID NOT need to be 2.5 hours long. I think I was more depressed when I left than when I went in.
