There are middle chapter problems and I have to say this is my least favorite of the three Baroque Cycle books. That said, it still has all of the things we love Neal Stephenson for—humorous writing, bizarre plots, entertaining action, development of everyone’s stories (except for Daniel’s, sigh) and surprises galore.

The Bonanza plot alone is something close to a masterwork.
