WORTH CONSUMING!

This is one of my favorite “lesser-known” Disney movies. I guess I like it mostly because it was one of the few Disney VHS I owned as a kid so I watched it ten thousand times, but I still think it’s a good movie on its own. The characters are touching, the movie is funny, the story is okay (though the villain lacks a bit, I was REALLY frightened of him as a kid) and the music is great. The visuals are amazing too – it’s the first Disney movie to use the Deep Canvas technology and the ever-so-great Glen Keane is animating Tarzan. The movie picture has a very luscious, lush feeling.

The Collector’s Edition DVD is one of the first Disney DVDs and it shows ;) It’s hardly possible to find it on DVD now (I managed to snatch a copy from a trusted Internet seller but had to pay the price!) since it’s been replaced by the single-disc “Special Edition”. The menus aren’t animated! That really was a surprise, though I guess it doesn’t matter so much. The kiddy games weren’t so boring, and the various documentaries were very interesting (I’d like more Phil Collins, but that’s cause I’m obsessed). The only problem I have with this DVD is the enormous amount of gallery images – it’s so annoying to have to press “next” all the time (I know I’m lazy, but a nice montage with a little music behind would have been much more appreciated).

But all in all, it’s a great DVD for a very good movie! :)
