NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I hated this book. It was NOT ‘deep’ or ‘meaningful’ it didn’t even make sense!! The language was stupid… I forced myself to read the whole thing, simply because everyone said this book was exactly what I would like…

I now feel Dumber than ever for having read it… Even the author himself was disappointed that this crap became his most noted work.

This book brings to mind a quote by Friedrich Nietzsche:

“Whoever knows he is deep, strives for clarity; whoever would like to appear deep to the crowd, strives for obscurity. For the crowd considers anything deep if only it cannot see to the bottom: the crowd is so timid and afraid of going into the water.”

WORTH CONSUMING!

Oh bliss! Bliss and heaven! Oh, it was gorgeousness and gorgeousity made flesh. It was like a bird of rarest-spun heaven metal or like silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now. As I slooshied, I knew such lovely pictures!

…..this is by far… my favorite book and movie.

anthony burgess is a genius. ….as well as stanley kubrick. haha.

Read the book before you see the movie, or else the book will be completely ruined for you.

WORTH CONSUMING!

honestly, it mirrors the movie perfectly. not too much was changed. i really like the rhetoric. it’s a little tough to follow first, but you get the hang of it after awhile.

Why oh why is there no glossary of all the slang in there? I’m somewhat of an Anglophile so I have to assume Burgess made all these rassoodocks and veshches and malchicks up from his fertile imagination as I have NO clue what all this means. I think I’m going to abandon this and try the movie instead. Perhaps Kubrick allows for some exposition to explain the odd linguistics.

Dustin let me borrow this one — it’s pretty warped but an interesting read.

Dig the book and the Kubrick film. Always enjoy books that play on language.

Ack, it was too difficult and the content was too dark for me to read at this time. I will attempt to tackle it later when my mood is different.

Much better in print, being fully immersed in the nadsat (without even a hand-holding glossary, in the edition I picked up). The final film-ignored chapter adds a lot to it. Horrorshow.
