A review of this — 3 years ago
I just started and finished this about two hours ago. This book is recommended to middle school aged children because of the book’s theme. Sahara is a little girl who was called Sahara Special by her classmates because of performing below average in her classroom. Her mother decides to have her retained in the 5th grade rather than have her be labeled as special needs. As the story unfolds, you see Sahara is indeed special, she is an exceptionally gifted writer. She is discovered by a dedicated schoolteacher who slowly pulls the “real” Sahara out of her shell.
Sweet book about the importance of the role of a teacher in a child’s life. And the emotional work it takes to be able to be comfortable in your own skin.
