After I finished Solitude, I read a book called Moneyball , by Michael Lewis. One of my board members had recommended it, and I had read about the general topic in the newspaper. Basically it is about a young man, who grows up with difficult circumstances. Actually, it’s not about anything like that! It’s a non-fiction book about the Oakland Athletics, and their extremely unusual ways of running their team. I haven’t really been that crazy about baseball for sometime, but I found it a very interesting read. I didn’t have any revelations about how to run my business better — as was suggested by the board member — but I feel like I’d be a better manager of a big league team.
It’s al about the Oakland A’s and Billy Bean’s Sabrematics approach to baseball.
An excellent book about markets and the imperfect way in which we attach quantitative and subjective value to things within them; further, how this process can affect individual lives and dreams. It just happens to also be an exciting tale of a season in the remaking of baseball’s conventional wisdom as well. Sweet.
