WORTH CONSUMING!

Be forewarned…this movie was filmed using non-professional actors and they didn’t work from a traditional script; the entire movie was improvised around an outline. Taking those things into consideration, it is very interesting to watch, but I definitely don’t recomend it if you’re strictly a Hollywood blockbuster kind of person. I thought it was an awesome experiment and look forward to the five other films that Soderbergh plans on filming in this manner.

WORTH CONSUMING!

The title of Steven Soderbergh’s semi-experimental Bubble means a few different things to me. I think of a bubble that forms and how it doesn’t last. It is fragile and beautiful and somehow Soderbergh captures that in the ordinary details of life.

Beautifully photographed on HD by Soderbergh under his pseudonym Peter Andrews, it features non-professional actors telling a story with details from their own lives, in their own town. It’s hard to describe, but is a fascinating glimpse of of ordinary life which moves from the ordinary to the extraordinary. The images and sound are crisp and precise, as is the editing.

It may not be for everyone, but it is a fairly unique film and it almost doesn’t seem possible for it to have worked so well. It has a similar look and feeling to Soderbergh’s Solaris, but in a radically different context. I think that it is a film that rewards patience and attention.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Everything about this movie is somewhat strange. First of all, I’m a netflix subscriber. I did not even order this movie. It came by mistake. I knew nothing about it, but I recognized the name Steven Soderbergh so I figured I’d give it a try. It also said on the DVD cover that he made this movie with no-named actors.

I watched the movie and it was just okay. They are no only no-named actors, these people aren’t even real or good actors. So I wasn’t sure what to make of it while I was watching. However, it didn’t bore me. It’s like watching and arty, independant film. So be prepared for that. You get to know three people who live in a small town in America. Non-glamorous people just living their every day lives. I think none of them are happy.

By the end of the movie, I thought it was just okay. Kind of because I didn’t get the whole, non-actor thing, but it added some realness and grittiness to the movie. Then I watched the extra features on the DVD. It ends up that these are real people that live in that town. They all have similar lives to these characters and it is just a dream of their to act. I get the impression that there was no real script. That the people were given situations and they made up their own dialoge. And many things about the characters in the film are from the actors real lives.

So, based on this, I think this movie is really unique and I think it is worth watching for people who enjoy movies.

These are the people that I’m a little afraid I’ll wind up sitting next to when I take the bus.

I didn’t know anything about this movie before watching it, other than it was a Steven Soderbergh film (which is why I rented it). About 15 minutes in I was about ready to give up – bored stiff. For some reason I kept watching, and things finally picked up at about 45 minutes. From then on, I was reasonably entertained. This makes the American mid-West seem a bit weirder and creepier than it is. I hope.
