Creepy Atmospheric Ghost Story — 6 years ago
Somehow I found this film and it was intriguing. I’m not someone who would seek out a Japanese horror film, but I’m fascinated with Japan and this film looked like it was more than just a horror film and it was. Filled with striking images and an enigmatic plot, it’s a somewhat thoughtful exploration of loneliness as seen by some teenagers in Tokyo. It slowly moves into a stranger and stranger world as characters connect and try to understand what is happening. There is an overall sense of melancholy and dread throughout with the themes and characters and distinctive overcast look. I loved the ambiguity of it and it’s one of those films that had me looking at the world in a different way.
