This is a really crazy book. People are snorting cocaine like kids eat candy, characters are constantly killed off in really bizarre, graphic ways. There are several separate story lines that run parallel to each other, and occasionally intersect. It’s hard to keep track of what’s happening and who’s who. The style is really quick and witty, and it’s a joy to read until about halfway through, when it all becomes too much.
I finished it on principle, and was irritated to discover that the book doesn’t really conclude. It has a sequel: Hammerhead Ranch Motel. On one hand, I want to find out what happens to everyone, but on the other hand, I don’t know if I can slog my way through another book like this.
