not a typical holiday movie — 2 years ago
Joyeux Noel (Merry Christmas) is a French film that won the 2006 acadamey award for best foreign film and also received several awards at the 2005 sundance film festival. it is based on a “true story” when on Christmas Eve, 1914, during WWI, the soldiers from opposing trenches (French, German and Scots) spontaneously initiated an unofficial truce in No Man’s Land in honor of the holiday.
despite its title, it is not exactly a heartwarming holiday movie. in fact the only thing it has to do with christmas is that the events covered in the film happened on that day. however the movie is very good and definately worth watching. there are some subtitles, but about half of the movie is in english. i think anyone who likes history will enjoy this film.
