I love books that mix the present with the past, and this one does it beautifully.
I expected a different ending. I always look for the obvious closure, but I like it better that way it is.

Lots going on in this one—childhood friendships, gender issues, art & the creative process, etc. The story is told in intertwined flashbacks, so what hit me most was how deeply the past is part of the present.
I couldn’t put this book down.
