It took me a long while to get into this one. The images were fresh and clear, but I couldn’t make myself really care about any of the characters. There was an inherent foreignness that it took a while to overcome. But I’m glad I did, because Noel pushed me relentlessly toward the climax and resolution, through bitter and difficult scenes, squirminess and near-tears. The ending felt good. Real. Hopeful, but not saccharine. No resolution. Like life.
