WORTH CONSUMING!

The Public Enemy is one of the significant gangster films that helped prompt the adoption of the Hays Code which carefully defined what could and couldn’t be shown in films. It’s a defining moment in James Cagney’s career as he plays a brutal gangster. The film follows his rise and fall and forms a rough template for all of the gangster films to follow. At times funny, at times sexy and even shocking, it’s essential viewing for those who are interested in the gangster genre.
