Disney does it again. The dogs steal the show from the human actors, of course. The scene with the leopard seal totally rocks!

This movie made me cry. I like movies that make me cry.
Also, it’s one of those movies that makes me wonder how anyone can dislike dogs. They’re beautiful, amazing animals.

The anthropomorphizing of the dogs was a little wtf, but otherwise a good family movie for all but the littlest kids (a few sad/scary moments, and they say hell a couple times). I particularly enjoyed the friendship between Shepard and McClaren. :)
Remake of the 1983 Japanese movie Nankyoku Monogatari.

This movie is too Disney. It’s a story about a bunch of stranded, starving dogs in the middle of a frozen tundra—that’s just plain sad! There’s no getting around that, but the filmmakers sure tried.
A much more realistic (and heartwrenching) movie of a similar nature is Antarctica, released in 1983. I haven’t seen it since I was a kid, but I remember having to hold back tears through most of it. I liked it much more than Eight Below because I actually got to know the dogs and their stories. This Disney flick is sweet, but just too shallow.

i watched this with my little brother and sisters, not because i particularly wanted to see it. i’m not a big Paul Walker fan or anything. It was definitely better than i expected, though it’s not the best movie of all time by a long shot. It was more the kind of movie that you don’t expect to make it to the movie theater but is good anyway. i cried at parts. It made me want a dog even more.
