Canadian epic, in retrospect — 4 years ago

Awesome book. Typically Canadian because it is told somewhat in retrospect but very real and true. Set in a fascinating time, the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis. It explores issues like sexuality, abuse, war, Canadian culture, and the burden of living with lies. None of it is contrived. The author is lesbian and that is represented, but her view goes far beyond that.
