When it comes to the Simpsons, the plot of your average episode follows three paths- it focuses on Bart and Lisa, or it involves a minor character or resident of Springfield, or it involves Homer. It the show is about Homer that week, more often than not, he’s got a new career or get rich quick scheme.

In this holiday themed issue of Simpsons Comics, Homer decides to go into the Christmas Tree selling business. It’s a very clever tale and it doesn’t feel like a cliche (as some comic books based on TV series do.) In fact, this series makes light of those cliches and it’s the most interesting and refreshing Simpsons tale since the Simpsons Movie. If only the TV series could follow the recipe of Simpsons Comics and not act like a dogged show that not only jumped the shark but been chewed up and vomited out.
