All Consuming

A story about this — 4 years ago

I used this book as a reference for a paper on historical interpretations of Stonehenge when I was in college, but I never got around to reading the whole thing, although it looked interesting. (Especially the bits about Eris!)

Fast-forward many years, and I pick up a copy for a song. A couple years later, and I finally get around to starting it while on vacation. But other books called louder, so I set it down. I’ll get back to it eventually.

It is well written and well researched. Adler is a practicing pagan, and that allowed her access to many other pagan groups that wouldn’t have given an outsider the time of day.

It’s a bit dated (even the updated version), as even between the first edition and the revised edition many groups had split up or dissolved, and many new groups had formed.

Today’s big thing seems to be Kabballah, courtesy of Madonna, not someone I’d look to for spiritual inspiration, but, hey, whatever, if you think counting up the letters of your name will help you lose weight, you go, girl!
