I know this is a classic of science fiction, and I know one reason why it is a classic is because it is written in an experimental style, in which ads, snatches of conversation, extracts from newspapers, etc., make up a good deal of the narrative. But an innovative style doesn’t matter much if I can’t connect with the story at all.
