Ever since I first looked up the recipe, the Rusty Nail has been a high wartermark in cocktails: nine parts Scotch, five parts Drambuie, poured into an old-fashioned glass overflowing with ice, and garnished with a lemon twist. Everything about it screams overindulgence, and then you add the tiny twist of lemon peel. This is not a drink you have if you’re planning on doing any focused concentration afterwards. This is a drink that you have when you’ve had a hard day and you need to reward yourself. It is the cocktail equivalent of changing out of your work clothes and into something more comfortable.
