A story about this — 1 year ago
an adolescent tale of a creepy village told so beautifully that you forget the embarrassing follies of youth it exaggerates.
liv tyler is just a goofy girl. no grace, no wit, no sincerity, and it almost makes sense here.
the entire village is full of perverts. and whats with the hookers in the country?
there are also a number of unresolved issues, which it seems like the movie could have resolved and it would have added to each of the characters, but its like they just forgot.
overall though, this is a snapshot, it is trying to capture the frustration of a woman not being comfortable with her own sexuality, and those are the most real moments. kind of. everyone else in the story lives in some crazy sex-crazed world, and everyone, EVERYone seems to be trying to fuck lucy. just comes off as creepy.
but again, Bertolucci is a master, and in the hands of anyone else this story would have been a cheezy, forgetful teen flick. just the way he crafts scenes, the music, the angles, the cuts, he is an amazing director.

I enjoyed this movie, too, but I never really got the creepy element – can kind of see what you mean, though!

really??
i guess it was just weird to me how the entire village seemed consumed with her virginity. plus jeremy irons, not really actin too suave here. it was just so blatant.
