I'd recommend
Ender’s Shadow, telling the same story from Bean’s point of view.
The rest of the series is also very good, but in a very different style.

Orson Scott Card was recommended to me by a dear friend in my varsity years sometime back, and ‘cos this was my first read from this (sf) genre, i guess i kinda came to it without too many coloured views/ expectations too.
Even so, was totally impressed by Orson Scott Card’s wit and deft handling of weighty issues, woven within a comfortable narrative.
Thanks for your sweet comment, am definitely gonna make a mental note to check out the series, esp. Ender’s Shadow. ;)
