As far as characters and plot go, there’s nothing new in this film. The ending, in particular, is a pretty straight ripoff. And the story is a little muddled.

Regardless, I found myself liking this film. It’s low-key at the right moments and builds with proper tension in the others; the director knows how to turn a little into a lot. It’s gorgeous to look at, and has some pretty bold camera angles that reminded me of Dario Argento.

There are moments of this film that are genuinely frightening, and that’s more than about 90% of the horror out there now can claim.
