A story about this — 19 weeks ago
I enjoyed this more than I expected! I’d been forewarned that the Dune sequels were more appendices, and certainly Dune Messiah is a very short volume, tying off Paul Atreides’ story somewhat. However, it’s also a bridging volume between the lives/stories of Paul and his offspring.
I think I was surprised at how much story is here, and how it does stand out in its ownright more than expected. Much like the original, there’s a lot of slow build-up here, meaning the pivotal plot device happens much later than you’d usually find!
You do have to have read the previous volumes, I think, but this was a pleasant follow up. It also sets up a much wider story than the original would have implied, meaning I’m looking forward to the next book or two! :)
