Oracular Spectacular

WORTH CONSUMING!

i decided to end my long music piracy streak by going out and buying this album. hey, sometimes a cd just isn’t worth buying when only 2 tracks are amazing. :/

right after leaving the store i decided to rip off the plastic (while i was walking!), open my car door, and put it into my cd player. “time to pretend” is the first track on the album and is a good opener. i have to agree with the person below me if what they are saying is that mgmt songs on oracular spectacular are jumbled. surprisingly, in a weird way, they all seem to come together and form a decent album. now i know what all the hype was about from all those music blogs. okay, pitchfork (which trumps other sites- admit it!) rated it a 6.8 and although that might not seem great it’s good enough for me! because you know, i am one of those drones that cares about what they rate an album ;/

anyways, i love the following tracks:

weekend wars
electric feel (i would at least have to use the word ‘funk’ when describing this track. caught me off guard, but i enjoyed it)
kids (who can’t fall in love with this beat ?! + it’s overwhelmingly catchy)
4th dimensional transition
pieces of what
future reflections

tracks i like:

the youth
of moons, birds & monsters
the handshake

i don’t necessarily hate or dislike any of the tracks. i think that, even in their state of disorientation, they are all needed to make oracular spectacular… oracular spectacular. it definitely made me glad that the purchase was well worth it. if only other artists could make me feel the same.

same experience

id heard the title track on some music blog, very interested, and when id heard the album had come out, i couldnt find it anywhere, torrent or otherwise. found out it was only available through itunes. so that was my first itunes purchase. yay

ive seen them twice since as well, once terrible, one transcendental.

i haven’t seen them live, but i would probably go if the chance were to arise. where was the terrible experience at for you?

dallas. sigh...

they opened up for of montreal @ granada, this was…jeez, back in november, not long after the album came out. i think they did that thing where they make the opening band sound shitty on purpose to make the headliner sound better. saw them at sxsw in a little tent and they were fantastic, even though the electricity kept turning off.
