I hate oranges. They’re bitter and tart and the only citrus I despise.

But then I read Francesca Lia Block’s story about blood oranges and I was interested. It took me a few years before it occurred to me go buy some and try them.

Now I love blood oranges. I wait for their in-season every year. I love their color and taste. It’s sweeter than regular oranges and has a better flavor. There’s a hint of raspberry in there that I love.

Dear god, I wish I could go to Italy and get some blood oranges now.
