The Science of Sleep

A review of this — 5 years ago

It’s not a bad movie, but if you rent it hoping for another Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, you’ll probably be disappointed. I don’t feel like I “got” this movie at all – not sure there really was something to get but still I did not find much enjoyment in the various scenes. It was visually pleasing, though, and the acting was good too. It’s just that the lack of a proper story made me lose my concentration quite often.

These were my thoughts exactly. I enjoyed it, but I didn’t really get it.

Like I said, I’m not sure you are supposed to “get it”. It’s just that I’m so used to, well, normal movies with a coherent storyline that I constantly went like “wha?” :P

I’m fairly certain the only way you could get it is if you’re utterly insane.

I got it.

But, if you don’t like weird in your movies, I’m thinking you should steer clear of them for a while.

I was wondering

If I was supposed to feel as if I was sleeping and dreaming throughout the whole movie? Because that was how I felt. It had the kind of randomness I often have in dreams, as well as a surreality.

Plus, I kept falling asleep, which leads me to believe my mind was fooled, as well.

That’s great! I wish I had been half-asleep watching it, too. It did feel like an entire dream, with unconnected sequences and all. I think your experience was probably closer to what the makers wanted us to feel :)
