WORTH CONSUMING!

This movie should be recommended not only to people living in the US (Moore is right… get mad at your government sometimes!) but also to all the Europeans who take socialized health for granted.

Sure, we in Italy can do much (very much) to improve it, but it’s still a privilege to have one, even with all the horror stories we know.

Yes indeed. I just saw this over the weekend with my wife and while we weren’t surprised at what Michael Moore showed in the film, it certainly brought the troubles with our health care system to the front of our minds.

What are some of the horror stories of the universal care you have in Italy?

This was not an isolated case…
The problem here is that many people in charge don’t feel like they are accountable for what they do, and often times they can get away with it. On the other hand, there are people who work twice as much to make up for the black sheep.

Still, I’d much rather live with the glitches, horror stories and even the corruption of the system than knowing that big lobbies are making big money denying me healthcare I personally paid for.

I see. thanks for pointing that out.

One thing that really hit home in Sicko was the segments on prescription drugs. It really is amazing that maybe a quarter of all our TV commercials are for some fancy new drug, which most likely costs way too much, or more than it should. How are prescriptions handled in Italy? Is it similar to the UK, where the cost was minimal? Or is it similar to the US, and blindingly expensive?

Are there options in Italy (similar to Canada, I believe) where you can still get insurance on top of the universal care you already have?
